The Arcata Sunrise Rotary Club is partnering with 5 other local Rotary clubs, as well as community groups like the HOGS (Harley Owners Group), two Kiwanis clubs and two Rotaract clubs to do their 3rd "SWOT Operation." SWOT stands for Serving With Our Talents, and there is a large hands-on volunteer component that will allow us to do just that as we accomplish an Extreme Makeover for the Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods. The Club House serves 60-75 kids a day, ages 6-12. They do a beautiful job of providing a safe, nurturing space with an emphasis on helping kids succeed in school - all with dwindling resources and making the best of what they have.
That's where we, as a community get to do something magical...and transform their Club House! FromOctober 10-14 we will be working to makeover their kitchen and will make needed changes to the bathroom. We will also be doing multiple organizing projects throughout the building, putting in a much-needed lawn, reviving their garden and putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls inside and out. We have seen the significant, lasting and surprising impact of our 1st two projects, and know this will create a memory that lasts a lifetime for the kids and staff. We also expect to see great things from them as they grow as an organization with our help.
